Description
The Paleta del Pintor is the spectacular backdrop to the town of Maimará, just across the Rio Grande. It is a geological hillside formation where tectonic movements exposed bands of sedimentary rocks from different periods. Its strata are drawn in reddish, ochre, yellow, and pastel tones, looking like authentic brushstrokes on the mountain.
Unlike other tourist spots in the region, the atmosphere here is deeply serene and authentic. Maimará maintains a slow pace of life, away from commercial hustle and bustle. It is a contemplative destination, ideal for absorbing the silence of the hills and the immensity of the Andean landscape.
💡 Recommendations
- Visit the place during the afternoon. The setting sun illuminates the mountain head-on, brightening all its colors.
- Climb up to the viewpoint of the Nuestra Señora del Carmen cemetery. From there, you get the best photographic perspective.
- Always keep warm clothing handy. When the sun sets behind the hills, the temperature drops drastically.
- Walk at a slow and steady pace. The altitude exceeds 2300 meters, and it is essential to avoid overexertion.
